Discover Alobar: A Hidden NYC gem

Posted by Marketing Team on Oct 7, 2015 11:45:05 AM

Just one stop from Grand Central is an amazing experience.

Alobar is tucked into the heart of Long Island City, a section of Queens just south of Astoria, which is fast becoming a sought-after neighborhood for city commuters, foodies and travelers! We can understand why. With great shops and varied eateries on every block, plus beautiful views of Manhattan, easy parking and an aboveground train ride on the 7, this area offers a great experience and less rushed pace.

The restaurant is located just 2 blocks from the PS1 Contemporary Art Museum and the waterfront. Inside, you'll find a lot more than just a restaurant. With a warm, vintage-style interior, the space has an inviting bar area in the front, as well as a dining area in the back, and offers private and semi-private events for 10 to 100 guests. They currently feature a prix fixe tasting menu with beer pairings, which is a great fall treat, perfect for rehearsal dinners, showers, and networking events or cocktail parties. They even offer cooking classes!

More about the Experience:

Alobar Tasting Menu with Craft Beer

The food: This four-course menu opens with heirloom cherry tomato salad, followed by sangria-braised octopus. Then, you'll get a choice of day boat skate wing, or NY prime steak & potatoes. Finish with a delicious strawberry cobbler.

The drinks: Each course is paired expertly with a craft beer that complements the flavors and aromas of the dish. (Author pauses to make reservation at Alobar for self.)

The street cred: Alobar has been the winner of the Michelin Bib Gourmand Award for 3 years in a row. To qualify, establishments must not only cook delicious fare, but also serve two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less. That's impressive! Also, did we mention craft beer?
